The second-largest delivery service provider in Romania

The Company

Cargus is Romania’s first courier company with over 30 years of experience. It employs more than 2,600 staff and operates an extensive logistics network, including five national sorting centers, two gateway depots, 36 warehouses, and over 2,000 SHIP&GO partner and locker points. Since 2019, Cargus has been part of the Mid Europa Partners Investment Fund, supporting its growth and service expansion.

The Challenges

To improve network efficiency, Cargus sought to optimize the number and distribution of Out-of-Home (OOH) locations, balancing cost and customer accessibility. Key objectives included:

  • Differentiating lockers from Pick-Up & Drop-Off points (PUDO)
  • Tailoring distance parameters for urban to rural areas
  • Visualizing point ownership (company-owned, partners, individuals)
  • Identifying network gaps and overlaps based on delivery and population density.

The Solution

Quarticle developed a dynamic, cloud-based location intelligence solution within its Graph platform, fully integrated with Cargus’ infrastructure. The solution processed over 3.2 million delivery addresses for initial geocoding, created detailed data layers segmenting locker types and ownership, and utilized visualization tools to track active/inactive points. Advanced analytics generated suitability heatmaps and data-driven recommendations for optimizing and expanding the OOH network.

The Results

Cargus gained complete visibility of its Out-of-Home network and received valuable insights to enhance coverage. Quarticle’s platform improved decision-making by identifying both underserved and overserved areas using parcel and population density data. As a result, Cargus optimized its network footprint and reduced operational costs. The project’s success also led to an extended partnership and new collaboration initiatives between Cargus and Quarticle.
